Makeup Bases Covered-YSL, Chantecaille, Orlane and Dior

Sometimes it’s the little things. With makeup, little tweaks offered by smart, high impact products make the major difference we’re seeking in terms of how the skin looks as the hours tick away. Whether we sit at a desk, stand on our feet or travel for work, hardworking products make it easy to be bright and ready in minimal time. The four workhorses we’ll look at today are :

YSL Top Secrets Instant Moisture Glow, Chantecaille Liquid Lumiere Anti-Aging Cheek Illuminator , Orlane Volume Care Mascara and Dior Addict Lip Glow Colour Awakening Balm.

The Base Layer- YSL Top Secrets Instant Moisture Glow

If you paint a wall without primer, chances are the finished look may have imperfections. Similarly with makeup, using a base product usually results in better looking skin. YSL Top Secrets Instant Moisture Glow acts like a lightweight moisturiser, blurs imperfections and prepares your skin for makeup. This time, rather than purchasing online, I made the pilgrimage to the counter to actually feel, smell and touch the product. At first I was apprehensive because I expected it to feel silicone-heavy. But any concerns were quickly abated once I bought and used it.

YSL Top Secrets Instant Moisture Glow is a highly innovative product that offers several benefits. Its formula is packed with blurring technology, plus it primes and hydrates. It may also be applied on top of makeup to instantly give a refreshed look. This product behaves like a foundation but without the pigment, making it an excellent choice if you are doing minimal or no makeup. Lastly, it will decrease signs of fatigue and smooth over lines and other textural irregularities. I can tell you it keeps my foundation and other makeup looking fresh, my dry skin remains hydrated and cheek and highlighter colours remain true, ensuring that after seven to eight hours of wearing makeup, when I go home everything still looks fresh.

Stay Illuminated: Chantecaille Liquid Lumiere Anti-Aging Cheek Illuminator.

Next up in the glow department is Chantecaille Liquid Lumiere Anti-Aging Cheek Illuminator. Chantecaille is a highly innovative brand that I have lusted after for too many years. Years ago, I would look at the items online and just wonder and wish, but at the time it was outside of what I was able to buy. Now that I’m able to, I’m still taking baby steps in buying items from this brand, while still consistently gawking at it. Founded by Sylvie Chantecaille, this brand refrains from animal testing, uses high concentrations of plant extracts and is exceedingly well known for their wildlife preservation campaigns that turn up every season in the form of stunning eyeshadow sets. Formulated with light-reflecting pigments, the Liquid Lumiere Anti-Aging Cheek Illuminator is a brilliant choice for grown-up, impactful illuminator.

In direct sunlight, this illuminator looks believable. It makes your skin look enhanced and highlighted and can also be used on the eyelids or combined with your liquid foundation. If you’re just a standard powder user, tap this on with your fingers to the high points of cheeks and even onto the outer part of the orbital bone to bring dimension to your face. I’m happy I finally bought this item as I had been looking for a product that is exactly what this is, a hydrating way to illuminate my dry skin.

Mascara Mission: Orlane Volume Care Mascara

The ongoing search that never ends. Mascara that makes your eyes look part doll, part naturally occurring double set like Elizabeth Taylor. Orlane, a brand that has been around since 1947, produces high-end, technologically advanced skin care preparations and makeup. I took myself from behind my computer screen to the counter to actually see what was new from Orlane and decided to try their mascara. Formulated with beeswax, carnuba wax and candelila wax, this mascara also contains fibers meant to make eyelashes look even fuller.

If you’ve ever used a mascara with fibers, you know that sometimes the fibers get into the eyes and that can be quite unpleasant. Somehow, Orlane have managed to formulate this mascara in such a way that the fibers are undetectable, making this very easy to use. The payoff is excellent and it is a proper black that is excellent for all occasions. My only complaint is that I’m not completely in love with the wand, as I feel it could be a tad slimmer. Nonetheless, it’s a minor thing because I am enjoying using it. Mascara choices abound in the market but when you truly pay attention to formulation and performance, you come to realise that buying a mascara should be taken less lightly as you journey further into your life. Yes, it’s a minor thing but I assure you, it does indeed matter.

Pillow Lips: Dior Addict Lip Glow

The final item in today’s roundup is from Dior. Specifically, Dior Addict Lip Glow has been hailed and applauded since it hit the market around 2011. I’ve side-eyed this product for a very long time as I could not understand why a balm costs $33 USD. It comes in four shades; pink, coral, berry and lilac. I swatched them all while at the counter and settled on this one, which is in pink.

Formulated with wild mango and luffa cylindrica (natural vegetable sponge), this balm adjusts once applied and when worn on its own, it will look different on each person. It is extremely hydrating and doesn’t fade from lips quickly like a standard balm. This product is also more than a balm, as it re-invigorates lipstick or lipgloss colour when applied on top of them. The shimmer seen in the swatch above looks beautiful on bare lips. There are no grits or bits in this formula, instead it is very smooth and has a properly uniform feel to it. I can say I’m pleased that I’ve finally bought it.

These four items have all brought me a sense of satisfaction, as I believe we all seek out cosmetics that deliver on their claims. Formulation matters to me tremendously, because it results in quality products that are high on impact while reducing the effort needed to make them work upon contact with skin or eyelashes. I also appreciate the technologies that go into making a product. Technology is not a dirty word in this context, as it also contributes to product performance and longevity on the skin. If you prefer a tight edit of products as opposed to mounds of items to wade through as you get ready, these four easy items are superb choices.
