Yuli Halcyon Facial Cleanser-Green, Clean, Cruelty-Free

Using Yuli Halcyon Facial Cleanser these past few months has been…surprising. Yuli Skincare is a new brand that’s been receiving quite a bit of attention from those looking for greener, cleaner, cruelty-free product options. As my other cleanser was approaching the empty mark, an event you may read about here , naturally I wanted something equally good to replace it. Let’s start with the scent, which is faintly herbal and very clean. This is a clear gel-liquid that is light, silky, very easy to apply and suitable for all skin types. The texture is actually quite unusual, in that it’s not a typical heavier gel. Because of the texture, when massaged into my damp face it behaves similarly to an oil in how easily it moves around the skin. Unlike typical gel cleansers, it is possible to do a complete facial massage using this as long as the face remains damp or by just adding a few drops of water to the palm while massaging.

For me, a cleanser gains extra points if I am able to use it as an ‘express’ mask of sorts. Thus, each time I apply the Yuli cleanser, I leave it for an extra five minutes or more unless I have to be ready quickly. Once the cleanser is rinsed away, even if not left on for an extended period, my dry skin always looks brighter and is never left feeling tight or uncomfortable. Also, if you prefer foamy cleansers, this is not the one for you because contact with water makes the Yuli cleanser turn into a milky-ish texture.

As a makeup remover, regrettably, a separate cleanser is needed, therefore the Yuli stands in as your second cleanse. I tested it while removing a full face of makeup and while it does remove some of it, I was not comfortable that it removed everything including sunscreen. Otherwise, if you do consider purchasing this cleanser, it’s recommended for morning and evenings.

‘Herbal infusion of Red Clover, Green Tea Leaf, Red Algae, Chickweed, and Sweet Olive Flower contains anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties that promote skin health. Help to tone, condition, and detoxify skin. Antioxidants, phyto-nutrients, and vitamins fortify, regenerate, and nourish skin.

Colloidal Peptides derived from Amaranth Seeds create gentle foaming that washes off debris, grime, excess oils, harmful bacteria, and sweat. Their cell-communicating abilities heal and repair skin. Enhances absorption of bioactives into skin cells.

Hybridized Fruit Enzymes derived from Papaya and Pineapple to remove surface impurities and dead skin cells, promote deep cleansing, and refine skin texture.

Zeolite – a detoxifying nutrient-rich clay, alleviates clogged pores while replenishing skin-optimizing minerals and antioxidants deep into skin.’

Heavy on actives and formulated with ethically sourced ingredients that are meant to keep skin happy, stable and irritant-free, if ever a  skincare line were the actualisation of being bespoke (made to order), this is it. Yuli Skincare takes the small-batch approach rather than mass-producing its items. It works closely with its suppliers to ensure quality and funnels revenue directly back into the business, thereby foregoing a press budget (per Yuli Skincare page). A very bold business decision if you ask me. I remove my Yuli Halcyon Facial Cleanser with tepid water, using my hands if it was a makeup-free day, or a muslin cloth if I wore makeup and I’m using it as a second cleanse. I’ve also tested for residue after removing the cleanser and it does an excellent job of cutting through grime.

The packaging is simple and streamlined, with the products housed in dark glass bottles with simple, impactful white labels. The cleanser bottle has a pump so that you control how much you use each time. However, I’ve deducted a point as the pump top pops off from time to time, but it’s easy to pop back on and it never loses its ability to work properly.

The Yuli Halcyon Facial Cleanser grew on me slowly, because at first, I wasn’t sure about its performance and effectiveness. Now that I understand it better, it is now an invaluable part of my daily skincare routine no matter what is on the agenda for the day. As you become more mature and your skin begins to change, the importance of a good cleanser takes on more urgency. It would be a waste of resources and time to use a crap cleanser in your skincare routine while using pricey serums, oils and moisturisers. Thus, I urge you to think carefully about your daily cleansing routine, ensuring that it’s right for your skin type, age, lifestyle and your budget. Any thoughts?
