Kjaer Weis bronzer in Lustrous signifies my first foray into a luxury, organic brand that has been steadily gaining market momentum and accolades from across the beauty sphere since its launch in 2010. For moments when the sun has gone missing (hello cloudy days), or the moments when you need an intuitive lighting director in pan form to quickly and flatteringly sculpt and bathe your face in light, this is one to consider. It’s amazing that beauty companies continue to produce bonzers of different iterations and yet, we fall for new bronzer launches all the time. As did I, with this one from Danish-born makeup artist Kirsten Kjaer Weis.
Lustrous is a cream bronzer. I have several powder ones but I do need to build out my collection of cream bronzers, simply because they tend to be more skin-like and flattering, especially in warmer temperatures. For drier and mature skin types, this can either work on its own or as a base for powder bonzer if you’re more wedded to that kind. This shade of Kjaer Weis bronzer can be broken down as follows:
- Lustrous has red undertones so it translates beautifully, especially on deeper skin tones.
- Coppery, blends out smoothly and can be built up to the intensity you prefer.
- Thankfully there are no chunks of gold or silver as that can start looking like face tinsel after a while.
- The texture is smooth and blends seamlessly into the skin for a natural, radiant finish.
- Wears beautifully throughout the day.
- Can also be used as a highlighter.
- Can be tapped onto eyelids with a clean finger to wake up the eyes. I’d advise layering over a concealer or eyelid primer to max out the wear time.
If you’re concerned about off-putting scents, I’m happy to report Kjaer Weis bronzer has none. Apart from that, your skin tone will determine if you can apply this on bare skin and be satisfied with the effect or if you’d be better served by applying it over foundation or powder. I like it on bare skin as it gives a warming effect and adds some dimension. Coupled with a few swipes of mascara, a quickly filled brow and a bit of a lip, the result is natural, sophisticated and clean and is perfect for the simple makeup devotees.
For a more intense effect, layer over foundation and a bit of powder on the nose and forehead for a complete, polished look. Plus, topping up can be done easily without interfering with your makeup beneath. It can be used to contour somewhat, but if you’re looking for high contrast contouring, it’s better to use a dedicated contour product.
- I like applying the bronzer with fingers first and then tapping in.
- When there’s more time I apply with fingers also then buff in with a flat top synthetic bristle brush.
- I rely on RMS Blush Brush which does an excellent job of blending in cheek colour without dislodging foundation etc. underneath.
Kjaer Weis also sets itself apart by offering product refills along with regular product packaging that can be ‘immortalised’ via their Intelligent Refill System. Their product portfolio includes lipsticks, glosses, lip and eye pencils, foundation, blush, highlighter, eyeshadows and even a facial oil. Plus, they do a mascara that has generally good reviews. I should point out that the compact is weighty, slides open horizontally and there’s a mirror built it. The size is perfect for travel or to keep in your handbag for touch-ups if needed. Naturally, the refills are priced less than the regular items.
Kirsten Kjaer Weis made sure to place emphasis on ensuring that the brand’s packaging is sustainable yet luxe and aesthetically impactful. The foundation shades range from light to five deeper ones. So if you’re in the market for a foundation made from naturally occurring, skin-loving ingredients, it’s worth having a look. Plus, the collection includes a translucent powder.
Lastly, the ingredient charter for this brand is quite impressive. With a commitment to sourcing sustainable ingredients globally, the majority of Kjaer Weis’ products can be categorised as Certified Organic or Certified Natural. Production is done in Italy and the brand leaves out nasties such as petrochemicals, parabens, silicones and synthetic fragrance.
