The Ultimate Sisley Skincare Review: 6 Hits and Misses

sisley skincare review

Sisley-Paris or as it’s more readily known, Sisley, is a French brand that was established in 1976.

Founded by Hubert (1926- 2015) and Isabelle D’Ornano, the company is now run by their adult children and remains privately held.

Sisley’s products are based on phyto-cosmetology, essentially harnessing the power of plant extracts to create skincare and makeup with a minimalist sensibility.

My foray into the brand started a handful of years ago with a blush; see the post here. I also included one of their concealers in my most recent concealer bulletin.

sisley purifying rebalancing lotion

Sisley Purifying and Re-Balancing Lotion With Tropical Resins

Sisley Purifying and Re-Balancing Lotion with Tropical Resins is a three-in-one lotion meant to purify, re-balance and soften your skin.

Packaging: Plastic bottle with spout top

Size: 4.2 fl ozs / 125ml

PAO (Period After Opening): 12 months

Scent: Mild floral/herb

Target Skin Type: Combination and Oily

Key ingredients include:

  • Incense and Myrrh extracts: soothe
  • Benzoin extract
  • D-Panthenol: moisturizes and soothes
  • Java Tea extract
  • Salicylic Acid
  • Lady’s Mantle leaf extract

Usage suggestion: Apply with cotton all over face and neck or to areas with imperfections.

My experience with the Sisley Purifying Re-Balancing Lotion was mixed. While this lotion is targeted at combination and oily skin types I used this primarily during the hotter months when my skin produces a bit more oil and is more prone to spots.

At first, I was concerned it would be too drying for my dry skin type but it proved to be a useful first step after removing my cleanser and the mild floral/herbal scent is pleasant.

Despite my fears, it never left feelings of tightness or burning. It always made my skin look brighter and also added hydration and created a look of evenness. This lotion is also perfect for very lazy days, as it can be the entirety of your post morning or evening skincare routine.

My best take away from using this is that it helped my skin to maintain an even texture despite the ongoing recurrence of spots and I especially appreciated it for my nighttime skincare routine to ensure that everything that was on my face was completely removed after cleansing. And while it’s unlikely I’d ever repurchase this lotion, it’s worth mentioning that it has lasted for about three months and counting because a little is needed per use.

sisley intensive serum with tropical resins

Sisley Intensive Serum With Tropical Resins

Sisley Intensive Serum With Tropical Resins is intended to reduce shine, tackle skin imperfections and improve skin’s texture.

Packaging: Plastic container with pump top

Size: 1 fl oz / 30 ml

PAO (Period After Opening): 12 months

Scent: Mild herbal/floral

Target Skin Type: Combination and oily

Key ingredients include:

  • Extracts of Incense and Myrrh: soothe
  • Benzoin extract
  • Burdock extract
  • Meadowsweet extract
  • Java Tea extract
  • Salicylic Acid
  • D-Panthenol: moisturizes and soothes

Usage suggestions: To be applied all over the face or to areas with imperfections or shine.

This serum became and integral part of my skincare routine during the warmer months because of the light gel texture. As I write this, it’s still one of the key products in my skincare routine and feels comfortable even as the temperatures have begun to cool off.

It absorbs quickly and leaves my skin looking smoother and brighter right after applying. I’m able to layer sunscreen, makeup primer and makeup over it without any resulting pilling or cracking although I sometimes have to swat away tiny particles after I’ve applied my current sunscreen .

I also use it at night especially if I’m trying to combat new spots and to keep my skin optimised although it never truly stopped new spots from coming.

Regrettably, as much as I like how this makes my skin look, it’s another product that I’m unlikely to repurchase. But if your skin is truly combination or oily, maybe you’d have better results.

sisley eye contour mask

Sisley Eye Contour Mask

Sisley Eye Contour Mask is targeted at reducing fine lines and puffiness.

Packaging: Plastic tube

Size: 1fl oz / 30 ml

PAO (Period After Opening): 6 months

Scent: mild to almost undetectable

Texture: gel cream

Key ingredients include:

  • Linden blossom: softens, soothes
  • Arnica: tones and soothes
  • Rose: freshens, softens
  • Ginkgo biloba: tones, protects
  • Plant-origin Glycerin: hydrates
  • Vitamin E acetate
  • Chlorella
  • Malachite
  • Provitamin B5: softens and maintains the skin’s moisture

Usage suggestions: apply all over eye contour for at least ten minutes, two or three times per week.

The Sisley Eye Contour Mask had been on my radar for some time because any feedback I read about it was always positive.

It became one of my standout summer skincare products because of how soothing it is. After keeping it in the bathroom, I opted to store it in the fridge so the cooling feeling was most welcome especially when it was really hot.

After I remove it, the lines beneath my eyes and at the outer corners of my eyes always look much less obvious. Plus, my eye cream goes on easier and it helps to temporarily improve the overall appearance of my eye contour.

It also helps the area to feel like it has been relieved, similar to the way your nose feels after it stops feeling congested.

Because such a small amount of product is needed for the eye contour, this tube will last a very long time.

However, despite the overwhelmingly positive reviews I’ve seen for this eye contour mask and the fleeting benefits I see and feel after using it, it’s a toss-up as to whether or not I’d be willing to re-purchase it.

sisley instant perfect

Sisley Instant Perfect

Sisley Instant Perfect is a makeup base that is aimed at smoothing lines, reducing shine and diffusing imperfections.

Packaging: Tube with spout at top

Size: 0.7 ozs /20ml

PAO (Period After Opening):12 months

Scent: Undetectable

Texture: Creamy gel emulsion

Key ingredients include:

  • Plant-origin Glycerin: hydrates
  • Frangipani blossom extract: softens
  • Soy peptide extract

Usage suggestions: Apply all over face, especially over fine lines or shiny areas right before makeup. Can also be worn alone.

Sisley Instant Perfect is a makeup base or primer that you’ll either love, like or the total opposite. I’m squarely in the ‘just short of love‘ camp as I truly like what it does but there are other primers that I absolutely love a whole lot more.

I’m giving this primer major points for being perfectly portable and because it doesn’t have a chalky texture.

It glides on seamlessly and doesn’t leave a filmy or plastic-like feeling on my face. I apply it all over my face, and even tap a little right beneath my brow bone for a hint of a lifting effect.

sisley instant perfect review

Worn alone, you definitely see how much of a smoothing effect it provides and during warm weather it helped my makeup to remain in place and maintain a fresh look for most of the day.

It’s also possible to tap this over your makeup during the day to freshen it up but I’d thread carefully and use the tiniest amounts.

On the other hand, while it never made my foundation a complete mess, I found that its compatibility with different foundation formulas wasn’t always a perfect match.

So I’d suggest a test run if you have an extensive foundation wardrobe because this is pricey for what it does and for the amount in the tube.

sisley double tenseur instant and long term

Sisley Double Tenseur

Sisley Double Tenseur Instant and Long Term is intended to hydrate and also create a lifted, smoothing effect on your skin. It’s also intended to reduce the look of fatigue and even help your makeup to stay in place longer.

Packaging: Plastic canister with a pump top

Size: 1 fl oz / 30 ml

PAO (Period After Opening):12 months

Scent: Mild floral

Texture: Light, fast absorbing gel

Key ingredients include:

  • Rhatany extract: astringent and toning
  • Lemon extract : astringent and toning
  • Oat seed extract
  • Tiger Nut extract
  • Cotton extract
  • Red Vine extract: Watercress extract
  • Biosaccharide solution : moisturizing
  • Glycerin of vegetable origin : moisturizes and softens

Usage suggestions: May be used daily. Apply all over the face before makeup or on top of makeup to refresh. May also be worn alone.

Sisley Instant Perfect is my second favourite product on this list. I wish it was offered in a bigger size because again, it’s such a small amount of product for the price.

The description is accurate when it says it offers a lifting effect. I definitely see the difference once I put this on and also feel the magic.

Here’s a quote from sisley.com that pointedly explains how Instant Perfect works:

Oat seed extract creates a continuous, stretchy and flexible “3D” mesh on the skin’s surface which an immediate lifting sensation. At the same time, the combination of Rhatany and Lemon extracts tones and visually smoothes skin texture. The face looks instantly firmed, features appear lifted and signs of fatigue are faded.

Even when I wear this alone, my skin truly looks like a much better version of itself.

And of course, makeup goes on, stays on and look so much better throughout the day. I like to think of this like an iron for the skin because it does such an excellent job in smoothing everything out.

It seems that plastic surgeons business has been booming during the lockdowns so if that’s not even close to an option or if you just need to look better in your virtual meetings and meet-ups, consider this. It’s one of the best skincare products I’ve used in a very long time.

sisley black rose skin infusion cream

Sisley Black Rose Skin Infusion Cream

Sisley Black Rose Skin Infusion Cream is intended to plump, brighten and hydrate your skin. Harnessing the power of oils and powerful plant extracts, this is a potent and effective cream that has gradually helped to fade leftover dark marks from old spots.

Packaging: Heavy glass jar, comes with a spatula.

Size:1.6 fl ozs / 50ml

PAO (Period After Opening): 12 months

Scent: Very detectable floral

Texture: Melting cream (it’s pretty dreamy actually).

Key ingredients include:

  • Black Rose oil extract: moisturizes and softens
  • Black Rose aqueous extract: surface smoothing effect
  • Alpine Rose extract: combats the dulling
  • May Rose water: softens and freshens
  • Alkekengi calyx extract
  • Padina pavonica extract: moisturizes and plumps
  • Hibiscus flower extract: tones the skin, gently exfoliates
  • Shea and Camelina oils: provide long-lasting comfort
  • Vitamin E Acetate: anti-free radicals
  • Biosaccharide solution: creates a moist film on the skin’s surface
  • Glycerin of vegetable origin: moisturizes and softens

Usage suggestions: Apply to skin including your neck morning and evening.

Sisley Black Rose Skin Infusion Cream is my absolute favourite product on this list and will also count as my standout product for this entire year.

I have to admit I’d never completely bought into or understood the hype surrounding this cream but after using it, the hype makes sense.

The texture is unusual and somewhat challenging to describe. If I just said it’s a light cream, that would be a gross disservice.

In actuality, this cream has a transforming attribute so it starts out feeling like cream but technically, on the skin it transforms into micro-droplets of water.

After application, it instantly transforms the appearance of my skin where it looks so much brighter and smoother than before. It impacts the way light is reflected off of my skin and creates an instantly rejuvenated appearance. It even makes any imperfections look softer and almost imperceptible.

I would even go further to say it’s like a jar of jaws of life or like jumper cables for my skin. After the initial month and more had passed, I began to notice a further overall improvement to the texture and hydration levels of my skin.

If you shy away from creams during the warmer months or if you live in an environment that’s warm or hot year round, this cream is comfortable to wear and melts right into your skin. It even has a slight cooling aspect to it and can also be worn under makeup.

The sensorial aspects of this cream really cannot be overstated because Sisley has managed to create such a multi-faceted experience with this cream.

If there are any drawbacks, it’s that I was mildly surprised at how small the jar is although it’s standard size.

At this stage, I couldn’t pin a clear winner but Sisley Black Rose Skin Infusion Cream is running neck and neck with my other very loved magic cream in a jar, specifically Chanel Sublimage.

Sisley’s skincare is the ultimate in luxury French personal care. Now that I’ve had the chance to try it extensively, I can add to the existing adoration for a couple of products. But am I now a total Sisley devotee? Not even close. I really love the two eyeshadows I previously reviewed and of course, the Double Tenseur and Black Rose Skin Infusion Cream.

Have you tried any skincare or makeup from Sisley-Paris? What are your thoughts if you have? It’s always a pleasure to share and I hope this helps.

You’re right, the zebra packaging is quite an eye-catcher 🙂 Fancy essences and toners forevah! You’re so welcome me dear xo

  2. I was always curious about this brand because I like their zebra packaging and the Orchidee blushes (both just for collectible purposes, of course!) but I had no idea how the skincare products performed. The Purifying Lotion sounds like it’s right up my alley…normally I’m loathe to spend money on skincare but I do love fancy essences and toners. Thank you as always!
