Review for Shade BD91.

I’ve put the Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Foundation through the paces for a couple of months and continue to use it when I wear makeup several days a week as it’s become my current go-to. Primers are key for me and I’ve used this foundation over ones such as Chanel Multi-Use Illuminating Base, Sisley Instant Perfect and Chanel Hydro Beauty Micro Serum.

Without powder is when you see how skin-like this formula is. Skin looks naturally luminous but not overly glossy.

Added to that, it has also paired nicely with my go-to sunscreen, Chanel UV Essentiel SPF 50 which I’ve reviewed in great detail in this post.

Here are the strengths of this foundation:

Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Foundation is a long-wearing formula that protects your skin against aggressors and pollutants and can easily be worn year-round due to its light, fluid texture. It also unifies my skin to leave an even finish. And for me, the mild scent is quickly forgotten and doesn’t linger.

Application is easy whether you use fingers for a natural, barely-there look. And when applied with a brush, precision is increased especially when it comes to getting into the contours of the face.

The formula also contains glycerine which helps to hydrate the skin and a much-needed element that keeps my dry skin feeling comfortable.

After it sets down, the feeling is weightless to the point I forget that I’m wearing foundation. And of course, any makeup I layer over such as powder and cream blush or highlighters and concealers also sets down nicely.

Under a mask, there was no shifting and I also didn’t notice any transferring onto the inside of my mask.

The pump top adds to the ease of use and even though the bottle is glass, it can easily fit into a travel case plus the amount of product is TSA compliant.

And the few cons I’ve found with this foundation:

Total coverage of dark spots is difficult to pull off, so a concealer layered over is needed.

Also, I was switching between Differin and A313 (review to come), to fade spots and work on texture as part of my nighttime routine. So when I applied the foundation at the height of using these two products, the foundation emphasised the areas of my skin that was dry and turning over.

I can also report the tiniest bit of oxidation, so keep that in mind especially when choosing your shade.

Ultimately, if your skin is very oily or if dark spots or acne scars or texture are major concerns and you prefer full coverage then this formula may not be your first choice.

On the other hand, personally, if I had to rank this foundation alongside other Chanel formulas such as Vitalumiere Aqua, Ultra Le Teint or the Water Fresh Tint (although that’s less of a foundation in the true sense), I’d put this as my number one.

It is an elegant formulation that I suspect drier to normalish skin types would be fans of. And once I cut way back on using acids in my nighttime routine, the finish was even better. The coverage remained true throughout the day with little fading even when I tried it without powder and at no point did I feel like I was wearing foundation.

Tips on choosing a shade:

As mentioned above, Les Beiges Healthy Glow Hydration and Longwear Foundation comes in 35 shades.

For more neutral undertones, choose shades starting with B.

For golden undertones, choose shades starting with BD.

For rosy tones, choose shades starting with BR.

If you’re happy with your current foundation, stick with it but on the other hand, if you’re looking for something that’s truly not heavy or unnaturally shiny, consider this formula and I hope this helps.

You’re ever so welcome my dear. Let’s hope that someday very, very soon in the near future we can cast off our masks and banish them to life’s museum.

  2. On the one hand I’m tempted – I can’t seem to find a foundation that doesn’t transfer or wear off on my mask – but on the other hand I’m oily and have terrible melasma/redness and require full coverage, so this probably wouldn’t work for me. Still, I love a lightweight liquid foundation, and it’s helpful to know where this stands in terms of Chanel’s other face makeup products. Thank you!!
