4 Body Products To Help You Slay Sundress Season

If summer bodies are made in the winter then goodness help me. But what I can help you with are four products that make your skin look better than it may naturally. Whether your concern is ‘chicken skin’ (keratosis pilaris), cracked skin, dimpled skin or skin that just needs a glow up from body oil or an intensive body cream, here’s what I’ve been testing:

Ameliorate Transforming Body Cream came on the heels of an extended search for something to help the dry skin patches on the sides of my calves. This British brand emerged after its founder had a similar experience with trying to find products to counteract her ‘chicken skin’ or keratosis pilaris. Here’s a brief description of chicken skin via mayoclinic.org

Keratosis pilaris (ker-uh-TOE-sis pih-LAIR-is) is a common, harmless skin condition that causes dry, rough patches and tiny bumps, usually on the upper arms, thighs, cheeks or buttocks. The bumps generally don’t hurt or itch.

Here’s another angle from one of my favourite dermatologists Dr. Samantha Bunting, speaking with getthegloss.com ”It’s a genetic disorder (autosomal dominant, which means that if one of your parents has it, you have a 50% chance of getting it) but it has variable penetrance, which means you might carry the gene but not actually have much to show for it.”

For me, Ameliorate didn’t quite make those dry patches disappear completely, but what it did do is make them appear less pronounced. Also, the patches are never painful but on closer inspection, they look like etchings. So the cream helped to make those ‘etchings’ seem less defined. But what sets this product apart is that it exfoliates in addition to hydrating the skin via lactic acid along with LaH6, a patented ingredient. With a fast absorbing, soft, silky texture, it also contains hydrating ingredients such as shea butter, squalene and cocoa butter. Another plus is how long the jar lasts because you don’t need much to cover your entire body, especially if used on freshly showered skin. With its cruelty-free formula, another plus of this transforming cream is that it’s safe to use on children 3 and older and it can also be used on your face. I’d certainly get another one of Ameliorate’s products as they come in a variety of sizes and also includes body lotions, shower gels, body exfoliants and even hand treatments. The last tip is to remember to use sunscreen with this cream because of the AHAs in the formula.

Grown Alchemist Intensive Body Cream is one of the many superstar natural products coming out of Australia. First off, this smells expensive but in actuality, it won’t break the bank. It’s definitely cruelty-free and comes in an earth-friendly, recyclable aluminium tube plus it’s organic. The ingredients are a mix of the usual; shea butter, aloe vera and rosa damascena oil, along with standouts such as evening primrose oil, sea buckthorn berry, blackcurrant extract, sandalwood oil and tangerine oil. Hence the reason it smells so divine.

How this has worked for me is by upping my skin’s hydration levels, filling in the look of dry patches to the point where it appears they were never even there and blurring the skin on the back of my hands especially, helping them appear much better than they are (IRL often dry, cracked and grey without product).

Boasting the complexity of a properly formulated fragrance featuring rose top notes, it’s interspersed with hints of citrus from the tangerine oil and underscored by warm notes from vanilla and sandalwood oils. So can this stand in as a fragrance? Depends on the scent intensity you prefer, but it can if you just like hints of aroma rather than a full-on perfume experience. This is the ideal spring/summer body cream that improves your skin’s appearance and elasticity while delivering superb hydration, giving skin a filling/smoothing effect.

Clarins Body Fit Anti-Cellulite Contouring Expert smells like a cross between pink bubble gum, mint and amoxicillin..it truly does. That aside, I’ve been loving the smoothing effect it has brought to the skin on my legs especially. But let’s step back a bit, how do you generally feel about anti-cellulite creams? I’ve used a number of them in the past and I.still.have.cellulite. But here’s the thing, they’re often good at smoothing dimpled skin, making it appear tighter and even brighter.

So after using this a number of months now, with its pink, gel-cream texture, I can say that it has helped the skin on my legs to look more refined. Plus, I especially love using it after I’ve exercised then showered, as it delivers a tightening tingle on my skin which is likely attributable to the quince leaf extract. Altogether, Clarins Body Fit contains eight plant extracts that help to minimise the appearance of cellulite. Clarins has designed a ‘self-massage body contouring method‘ for using this product, in that the massage is meant to optimise circulation and reduce the feeling of heaviness in the legs. While I generally don’t do this method when I use Body Fit, I do apply it by using long strokes starting on my calves then working my way up to my hips.

Chanel Coco Mademoiselle Velvet Body Oil is an exquisite body treat. Boasting similar scent notes to the Coco Mademoiselle fragrance, this is potent enough to be worn alone. Housed in a clear plastic rectangular bottle with a nozzle top, you can spray this dry oil wherever you choose then bask in the sensorial experience of massaging it into your skin.

As always, that moment you step out of the shower is a cross between an edited bewitching hour and a meditation session for slathering on and applying all the oils, creams, tinctures, sprays, serums and whatever else, as clean skin is the ultimate blank canvas. Using this on clean skin sets such a nice atmosphere in the bathroom and in your general space. The standout notes according to Chanel are orange, patchouli and may rose, creating a sensuous veil that’s going to be especially welcome once sundress season is in full swing.

I didn’t include Chanel No.5 Body Cream in this group but I absolutely love it and the fact that it can also be worn without layering a separate fragrance on top. But if you want details about it, see [this post]. So let’s compare notes, what are some of your favourite body products? Let me know here or on SM and I hope this helps you to find a product suitable for some of your body care needs.
