5 Beauty Buys Under $30

under $30 beauty

5 beauty buys

Today I’m sharing 5 beauty buys under 30$ that are practical, easy to get, money-saving and one or two are also great gift ideas for the beauty lover in your life. I’m happy to finally bring this post to life and hopefully, there are some new discoveries that can work for you. Some of the items under $30 dollars include a sumptuous candle, help for dry, flaky lips and something special to give yourself the best possible pedicure in the comfort of your home. So in no particular order here they are:5 beauty buys

Apa Lip Loofah

Made from sugar, shea butter, cacao seed powder and sweet almond oil along with a slew of other hydrating ingredients, if your lips tend to be flaky and dry, or if your smile needs a bit of an at-home intervention, Apa Lip Loofah is a great under $30 beauty find. It’s not overly gritty and doesn’t rip my dry lips apart. I like leaving it on as a mask, especially if I’m also doing a regular face mask or as part of my nighttime routine a couple of times per week. If time is short, smear it onto your lips with a cotton bud, then remove with a soft cloth and proceed with your regular lippies.

Apa Lip Loofah has a faint vanilla/almond scent and the consistency feels like a typical jar lip balm. But the physical exfoliation comes from the bits of sugar and almond seed meal that show up in the jar as little brown flecks. Thankfully, the lip loofah is gentle yet manages to remove dead skin from the lips and leaves them feeling smooth and ready for whatever you put on after, making lip balm unnecessary once it’s removed. I also feel that it gives a bit of a brightening effect when I leave it on for more than five minutes, an excellent added bonus. Apa Beauty was envisioned and brought to life by Dr. Michael Apa, a highly sought after cosmetic dentist who set out to fill the need for an easy to use line of oral aesthetic enhancement products. The line also includes teeth whitening products, a lip shine, lip balm, and a sonic toothbrush. Apa Lip Loofah retails for well under $30 with its price being $19 USD.

Patchology Poshpeel

Patchology Poshpeel is one of the best home-use pedicure items I’ve come across in a handful of years. With a choice between a single-use box or a set containing two treatments, this banishes flaky skin and cracked heels. Patchology Poshpeel consists of a pair of ‘treatment socks’, along with two packets of the activating essence. The packet of activating essence is then poured into each sock then the socks are worn for either an hour or 90 minutes if time permits. The essence is a blend of AHA (Alpha-Hydroxy Acid) and BHA (Beta-Hydroxy Acid) and includes salicylic acid, glycolic acid, lactic acid and botanical extracts all meant to slough away cracks, flakiness and the overall look of neglected feet to make way for feet that look like somebody is actually ‘at home’.

After using this my feet looked brighter, felt refreshed and my soles were smooth. I was able to walk around with the treatment socks on as they’re made from a durable, well designed material. The treatment essence has a bit of a ‘medicinal’ scent but that’s only detectable if you hold the packet to your nose. Patchology also makes other nifty products for the face, lips and eyes. I introduced the Patchology Poshpeel in a previous post about the Mintd Box subscription and now that I’ve finally used it, I’m sold. Patchology Poshpeel retails for $20 USD for a single treatment.

Boulangerie Vanilla and Fig Scented Candle

Vanilla and Fig are a winning combination in this scented candle that’s made especially for Anthropologie, (one of my favourite retailers) by the established US-based fragrance company Illume. The candle comes in an old world inspired crackled glass holder with a metal lid. With a decent scent throw when lit, the notes of vanilla, petals and figs fill whatever room it happens to be in. While it lacks a bigger scent throw in comparison to candles with a higher price, it certainly creates a light ambience that I find especially perfect for warmer weather when you simply want a light scent accent for your interior. I think it’s also lovely as a hostess gift instead of the rote bottle of wine, or as a little treat to yourself.

At $18 USD, it’s an excellent candle, plus there are nine other scents such as Whipped Cream and Pear, Oatmeal Cookie, Angel Food and Lavender Shortbread from which to choose.

Shiseido Ibuki Smart Filtering Smoother

One of the best primers I’ve ever used, Shiseido Ibuki Smart Filtering Smoother is a spot-on match for all skin types and skin tones. Formulated with micro-powders that work to diffuse textural issues, control oil and fill in lines and high on versatility, it can be applied before makeup and even on top of makeup to hold things in place. Alternatively, this may be worn if you’re not wearing makeup or tapped over your moisturiser.  This primer really helps my makeup stay on and helps it to fare better in hotter temperatures. Extra points are also given because it helps makeup to photograph exceptionally well.

Two other major advantages of this smoother are its size which is perfect for travel and the price, which comes in at $23USD. When I got this primer, I wrote about it here and I’ve always wondered why more primers are not available in this size. In general, not much product is ever needed for a single use, so this 20ml size definitely hits the mark.

Marius Fabre 1900 Rose Bar Soap

Rounding out my 5 beauty buys under $30 is a bar soap from Marius Fabre, a French company dating back to 1900. Started by Monsieur Marius Fabre at the youthful age of twenty-two, the company has withstood the highs and lows of changing consumer habits, wartime and advances in technology. Personally, I believe the desire for simply produced, artisanal personal care products will continue to be on the uptick, as people become more interested in and aware of ingredients. Added to that, bar soaps are better for the environment because less packaging is required and because they tend to last longer than shower gels, thereby reducing waste.

This is easily one of the biggest bar soaps I’ve used as it’s 8.8 ounces/250g  so it will last a very long time. Added to that, it can be used for face, hands and body and is made with natural ingredients including shea butter and 100% vegetable oils and has no preservatives. With a mild scent, this leaves my skin feeling soft and hydrated and it can be also be coupled with other small items if you need a hostess gift or if you’re putting together a personal care gift package. This Marius Fabre 1900 Rose Bar Soap is cruelty-free and retails for $8.44 USD, although I saw it on sale for $6.99 USD, making it an accessibly priced personal care product that can be enjoyed by the entire family.

Your turn, what are some nifty items under $30 that you swear by?

  1. Thanks Cici! The pedicure kit is truly an amazing product. There’ll be some peeling after you use it because of the exfoliating acids in the formula, but after about 6 to 7 days the peeling ends and you’re rewarded with bright, smooth, soft skin:0
