It’s the half-year mark plus it’s Summer, so I’m rounding up the 9 Chanel products I have on repeat at the moment. This year’s Chanel’s launches have been stellar and to me, even better than some of the launches over the two previous years. My group of nine include a number of heavy hitters that have become easy favourites, so here they are and naturally, everything starts with lipstick:
Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet in Nuance is a light brown-ish/peachy beige lipstick that was an unusual choice for me but I wanted something to take me away from my lipstick uniform of reds and deeper pinks. Also, on lips like mine that are dark on top and lighter on the bottom, shades such as these are tricky but with a lipliner, ( I like Chanel’s lipliner in Mordore-Nude), I can pull it off especially if I do a stronger eye look. Once I swipe it on a few times the colour comes through to deliver a long-wearing finish that’s always comfortable to wear. According to Chanel’s website, this formula contains ‘mother of pearl pigments, jojoba oil and shea butter’.
Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet in Infrarose is a fuschia that actually applies more transparent than it appears and also veered into unusual territory for me. I can actually pull off this lipstick without lip liner, as I discovered not long ago. It wears down to a stain so your lips will never be bare when wearing this. With the same formula as Nuance, it’s comfortable and never dries out my dry lips.
Later in the Spring, Chanel released Baume Essentiel Multi-Use Glow Stick, officially described as ‘a moisturizing, glow-enhancing balm for face, eyes and lips’. I took some time to come around to this product because I wasn’t sure it would be right for my skin tone. There are two variations of this, Transparent, which is sold out and Sculpting, the one I have. I looked high and low online for swatches of this on people with a similar skin tone to mine and basically came up empty-handed save for one blog post that I knew of.
I now adore the Baume Essentiel because of the subtle, skin like enhancement it provides and because of its versatility. As one of the nine products I have on repeat, it adds so much to my routine including a bit of intrigue in the form of the light it brings to the face, especially where you wouldn’t expect it to be. It adds that editorial touch but for at-home use. Plus, it’s easily portable and can be tapped on whenever you choose. I like to apply it on my orbital bone, below concealer, then on top to finish the look.
I also like it in the middle of my eyelids and skimmed across the very top of my cheekbones. If you get oily it may be the last product you need but if any degree of dry skin is your reality, you can apply this wherever you need to add light. One last note, test at home then go to the window to ensure that it works where you apply it because it’s not a cute look if you get carried away…don’t ask..
Les Beiges Water Fresh Tint is one of the major releases for this year with its light, mostly water-based formula that brightens and evens skin plus it comes with a brush that makes applying it so easy. I use circular motions to make sure the distribution is even. If your skin is on the drier side, you may consider skipping powder or keeping powder minimal because the finish is so skin-like and even.
Don’t look for full coverage from this product. Instead, think of it similarly to a tinted moisturiser but without the SPF and without the heavy feeling. If you prefer that foundation-free life but still appreciate some coverage without needing to be precise, definitely consider this product and for extra help in deciding, see my original thoughts about it [here].
Les Beiges Natural Eyeshadow Palette made quite the splash once it was released so it was a natural addition and unsurprising that it’s one of the nine on repeat. Cue natural, wearable shades that are universally flattering, easy to apply and blend, not to mention how long-lasting the shades are. This is every season in a palette, and it offers choices for every occasion. My palette has already transitioned into the well-loved territory and I have no regrets. If you get nothing else that Chanel releases this year, get this.
Le Vernis Longwear Nail Colour in Purple Ray is a pastel lavender with bluish undertones. With an updated formula that protects your nails, plus wear time clocking in at around six days without chipping, this looks beautiful in the sunlight and will satisfy the need for a chic neutral if deeper nail shades aren’t your cup of tea.
Stylo Ombre et Contour in Vague does triple duty as an eyeliner, eyeshadow or as a khôl. This is a goof-proof pencil that you can scribble on all over the eyelid or in the water line to brighten your eyes in a snap. I’ve made quite a dent in it since I first talked about it [here] and it’s become even more of an integral part of my stash especially after it held up so well on holiday.
Another item that I can’t put down from this year’s Cruise 2019 Vision D’asie Makeup is the Le Volume Revolution de Chanel Mascara in the shade Volcan. Volcan is described as a deep grey but looks black. When this new formula was released in black last year, I jumped right into it and haven’t looked back. Le Volume Revolution boasts a 3D printed wand with a honeycomb design, making it ideal to grab and separate lashes. Plus, it stays true in hot weather and in very cold temperatures, so it’s the ideal year-round choice for lashes that maintain an uplifted, fully coated look for day to evening.
Despite looking like an unlikely colour choice in the tube, Rouge Coco Gloss in Fraicheur is a transparent gloss that enhances the look of natural lips or adds dimension when layered over other lippies. It’s the perfect toss in your purse gloss that doesn’t require a mirror nor a brush. I love it when Chanel does these shades as they introduce some fun into their usual offerings. Hydrating, glossy, long-lasting and in a go with everything shade, Fraicheur is a fun way to liven up your lips.
Of the nine Chanel products I have on repeat, if I had to choose the top three it would be the Natural Eyeshadow Palette, the Les Beiges Water Fresh Tint and The Baume Essentiel Multi-Use Glow Stick. Otherwise, every single product from this group of nine brings me immense joy and hopefully you’ve spotted your next treat to yourself. It’s a pleasure to share and I hope this helps.
