I have 3 neutral and plum nail shades that are perfect for this time of year including the prettiest, universally flattering pale pink shade. Doing nails at home delivers a level of satisfaction that’s hard to beat, especially now when things are increasingly dicey in the world. Two of the shades are from Olive and …
Who’s summer makeup haul is this? It’s the question I asked myself once I started taking the photographs for this post. I’ve been putting these items through the paces, some for almost four months, with the earliest acquired item being the Guerlain lipstick and the latest, the lip pencil and blush from the Black Owned …
As more of us begin de-quarantining and businesses re-open, manicures and pedicures are likely at the top of the wishlist of things we’d love to have done. So whether you prefer to slay your mani-pedi at home (raising my hand) or if you need ideas for what to take with you to the nail salon, …
The Olive and June Studio Box comes from a namesake nail salon that came about in 2013. Since then, the breakout product from Olive and June is The Poppy, a handle that fits over the small inner cap of your nail polish bottle. The job of The Poppy is to give you greater control over …
Spinning the colour wheel today to offer you four ideas for your Fall/Winter manicure. From a lovely neutral to the vampiest oxblood, a shade that initially came about as a happy accident, your Fall/Winter manicure is now officially sorted.
Chanel Le Vernis Bleached Mauve 646
This is the ideal smart-looking neutral that can be worn by anyone. At some point during the colder months, it’s easy to get tired of reds, wines and plum manicure shades, especially once the year-end festivities have ended. So this is where Bleached Mauve comes in.
I’ve offered a full description of the shade [in this post] when it was among some new additions to my makeup bag. I love how it creates a clean line between the nail and finger and how sophisticated the overall manicure looks with this shade.
Plus a shade such as this, with peachy undertones, is a great alternative to sheer baby pink shades that neutral lovers tend to reach for.
Chanel Le Vernis Rouge Red 546
From neutral to red, Rouge Red has come and nudged aside my other favourite red which is the shade Pirate. Rouge Red is red in its truest incarnation, so it’s likely to suit any skin tone.
Apart from this being the ultimate choice for a classic red nail manicure, its wear time is impressive as I got a full week before it needed changing although I could have stretched it for a couple more days.
Plus, it applies smoothly, dries quickly and retains a glossy finish for the duration of wear time. With two coats you can absolutely wear this without topcoat but I’d vote for always using atop any nail polish you’re wearing.
Smith and Cult Nail Lacquer in Lovers Creep
This one is for the Bordeaux lovers, except instead of a bottle of red wine from the Bordeaux region of France, Smith and Cult have offered it for your Fall/Winter manicure..and pedicure. I love a deep red nail, so when I saw this one I fell for it instantly.
Admittedly, I ran into some issues with the application as I felt it wasn’t going on as evenly as I would have liked.
The second coat made things a bit better and once I added topcoat, that helped a lot. Barring that, the shade is beautiful, plus Smith and Cult nail polishes usually have great staying power. Therefore I’d still suggest it for a manicure that has a bit more ‘edge’ to it.
Chanel Le Vernis Longwear Nail Colour Rouge Noir 18
Here’s a quote ”black and white are joined by red” and this one ”red-black”. Chanel regards Rouge Noir as a red-black and I am in full agreement with that as evidenced by when I wrote about this shade in another manicure post you may [read here].
I believe I’ve written about or photographed this nail polish numerous times since I’ve had it and that’s because it’s an unlikely classic. If you’ve seen the film Pulp Fiction, Uma Therman was wearing it and if you’ve seen Madonna’s Take A Bow music video, she wore it then as well.
The application, finish and wear are unparalleled and it has inspired a slew of ‘reincarnations’ at just about every price point. Rouge Noir benefits from adding a topcoat although if a matte manicure is more to your liking, then wear it without topcoat. Also, pair it with your favourite rings or bracelets and watch the shade pop against your skin, especially since accessories add life to your overall look during the colder months.
Chanel’s nail polishes are all 5-free, while Smith and Cult nail polishes are 8-free. It’s also important to point out that more than anything, my suggestions are based on the shades more so than on the brand.
So here’s to Fall/Winter manicures, from smart-looking neutrals to the deepest berry or black based nail polish.
Take a chance and see where it takes you and while you do that, I’ve compiled the ultimate beauty podcast playlist [for you here]in anticipation of the next time you need something fun and informative to listen to and I hope this helps.
I’m rounding up the makeup I loved this March (and one skincare item) which as usual, are not all new releases. But the pieces I’ve been using have brought no less joy than anything else already in my stash so naturally, I’m sharing the spoils with you. Sephora Rouge Gel Lip Liner in 34 Animal …
