Immortelle Beauty flew onto my radar while putting together my ‘playbook’ for a trip home. The beauty part of my playbook came in a solid second to the food part but that’s beside the point really. Yet it was important to me to check out what was happening in the beauty space on the island which is totally having a moment.
While I didn’t have the pleasure of meeting Immortelle Beauty’s Founder, Kathryn Nurse, I’m relying on her website for the brand’s back story. However, her store is located at Trinidad’s Normandie Hotel and I have to say I really loved the space, how it felt and more than anything, how it was decorated as you’ll see in the photographs. The store is a scent lover’s oasis featuring well thought out decor, mixing contemporary touches while maintaining the right pitch of island vibes.
Ms. Nurse is a cosmetic chemist who founded Immortelle Beauty in 2010. In her words, Immortelle Beauty was created ‘with the aim of creating “Little Local Luxuries”. The company develops, manufactures and bottles an aspirational Caribbean lifestyle and then sells it to all women who want to feel the warmth of an authentic Caribbean experience, while empowering themselves through beauty’.
I counted four other brands in the store alongside Immortelle Beauty’s products. From organic haircare from Kylex Naturals, and beard oils from the brand Classy Gents to soaps from Rodco Home Essentials and decorative objects from Very Verde, these brands represent the fact that Caribbean nations can indeed produce globally appealing products.
I travelled very light, so as my space was limited, I only got the Immortelle Beauty Sheer Moisture Spray Oil, an after-shower treat in the scent Agave-Hibiscus. The brand also has shower gels, moisture lotions, body butters, scented candles in striking, elegant holders along with body polishes. Plus, there are three-product travel packs that make sampling the items a snap.
The Sheer Moisture Spray Oil in Agave + Hibiscus is exactly my type of after-shower product as it’s an oil that hydrates and leaves a nice gleam on the skin. The oil is fast absorbing, especially when applied to damp skin, plus using it sets the tone for some instant pampering. In a steamy bathroom, the scent wafts around and becomes emphasized, never failing to turn my bathroom into a bit of a spa. The oil also features avocado seed oil, sunflower seed and rice bran oil along with mango seed butter so it’s the ultimate treat for my dry skin or all other skin types.
Everything in the Immortelle Beauty store at the Normandie Hotel is ideal for gift giving or as treats to yourself. The Sales Assistant who greeted us when we visited was warm, welcoming and well informed about the products and made us feel comfortable. The entire space can really give other bricks and mortar retailers a run for their dollars and I think it’s going to be interesting to see where this brand goes and how it shapes the local and regional beauty/personal care space.
Immortelle Beauty products are also accessible online at immortellett.com and at other locations throughout the island. Another reason to hop over to the website is to see words and photos depicting Ms. Nurse’s adventures locally and on her travels as it makes for fun reading.
I was so impressed with the feel of the hotel as well that we returned for drinks and dinner and came away with full tummies and great memories. So if you’re familiar with the hotel, which I personally feel should get far more big-ups, plan a visit to check out Immortelle Beauty’s space then go back for bites and beverages to just enjoy it all and I hope this helps.
