Lisa Eldridge Love of My Life Lipstick is one of four Summer Pinks she released for Summer 2019. The shades are:
Love of My Life
As I purchased two lipsticks (same shade), they were accompanied by the sweetest zippered pouch in cerulean blue featuring gold piping and embossed with Lisa’s logo.
I chose Love of My Life for a number of reasons. It seemed the ‘safest’ colour choice for me since the lipsticks are limited edition and points of reference would be hard to get.
Lisa Eldridge describes Love of My Life as a medium, rosy pink, semi-sheer pigmented lipstick. In real life, it is truly rosy and offers more saturation than the semi-sheer description implies. Plus the gold tube is such a standout from other lipstick packaging and it’s made even sweeter by the embossed ‘L’ and lips outline on the lipstick bullet.
The texture is free of micro-shimmers and buttery smooth but my lips still show somewhat with one swipe. Of course, it’s buildable, and what I’ve found is that once you’re finished applying and some time has passed, the formula sets down to leave lips feeling comfortable. That also means my lips feel hydrated without feeling oily or sticky and at no point does it dry out and create dead skin or dry patches on my lips.
Love of My Life is so easy to apply and to wear, that it can be swiped on similarly to a lip balm. Added to that, there’s no overt scent and it’s cruelty-free. For a lipstick this emollient, wear time is quite admirable as it holds up through most eating and drinking.
Because my natural lip colour is ‘varied’, I needed to go over a few times to achieve total saturation. And once the lipstick sets down, the reward is a beautiful pink that illuminates my face without being too pink or barbie-like.
I’ve tried it without a lip liner and I’m happy to wear it with liner as well. When I do use lipliner, it’s a little bit of Chanel’s Lip Definer in 05 Mordoré Nude then top that with Sephora’s Rouge Gel Lip Liner in 34 Animal Instinct after applying the lipstick. I then carefully feather in the lip liner to achieve a more precise look. I’ll have to keep playing around with liners to get the best match but in the interim, this combination works.
To get an even better understanding of Love of My Life I also did swatches of similar shades; Pat McGrath Luxe Trance Lipstick in Beautiful Creature, Tom Ford Lips and Boys Lipstick in Francesco and YSL Rouge Volupté in 62K401 11. Forgive me as I couldn’t quite find the YSL shade as the name on the tube has faded.
At the time of this writing, all four shades of Lisa Eldridge’s Summer Pinks lipstick are sold out however restocking is carded for October 2019. From her Holiday 2018 collection, I bought the shade Velvet Jazz and you can have a look at it [here]. Velvet Jazz has since become one of my top choice reds for ‘fancy occasions’ because of its comfort and how well it wears.
As a world-class makeup artist and the current Global Creative Director for Lancôme, Lisa Eldridge continuously contributes to evolving the makeup industry. This is her second lipstick launch so we’ll wait to see if she introduces new lipsticks in the future that are likely to be just as covetable as her first two launches. So if you still haven’t had a chance to try her lipsticks, mark your calendar for October 2019 and I hope this helps.
